You’d like to turn accidental workouts (sit, stand, chase down scampering child) into something more structured.
This is not in your mini trainer’s plan.
Time to make a run for Pow. The Loop’s martial arts and kickboxing studio is launching Pow Kids, a series of stimulating classes that help kids build strength and coordination through play.
Instructors use make-believe to get little limbs working. In Adventures in Movement, youngsters (ages 2-4) don animal masks and pretend they’re in the jungle (look at that wee monkey swing through an oversize tire). Older ones (ages 6-10) enroll in Superhero Training, where they leap, balance, and try other acts of derring-do.
The studio’s Parent Perks program lets moms and dads tackle custom-created workouts in the gym (look for ellipticals, bikes, and StairMasters) while their children are in class.
That way, starting a family exercise routine is no sweat.
Pow, 950 West Washington Boulevard, at Sangamon Street. For more information or to register, call 312-829-7699 or go to powkidschicago.com. Six-week sessions begin this week, $110-$140.
