If only getting the little one to sleep were as easy as flipping a switch.
Consider this bright idea: night-lights. We did a little test and took a shine to these four.
Béaba Pixie Night-Light
How it soothes: The Scandi-designed lantern stays aglow for six to eight hours and can be placed safely in a bed or crib (with no worrisome batteries or cords).
Biggest turn-on: The bulbous green handle makes it easy to lug on late-night potty trips.
What we’d change: It needs a timer setting, so it doesn’t stay lit unnecessarily.
Cost: $50 at scichild.com.
Giimmö Magic Light
How it soothes: Furry, adjustable arms, legs, and ears allow you to put the animals in any pose you want. The rechargeable bulb casts a changing array of colors.
Biggest turn-on: Sixteen characters tempted us to start our own little zoo.
What we’d change: The on/off tap mechanism got our bitsies all riled up just as we were trying to wind them down.
Cost: $33 at heritagemint.com.
How it soothes: GloMate’s battery-operated little sis goes anywhere kiddo wants — even under the covers. Program it to shine one color or cycle through the rainbow for kaleidoscope dreams.
Biggest turn-on: The companionship factor — it could fill in for a stuffed animal.
What we’d change: More timer options; fifteen minutes wasn’t long enough for our fussy tyke.
Cost: $10 at getmobi.com.
Zzzoolight Animal Light
How it soothes: More lamp than night-light, the airy polypropylene giraffe and bear bathe rooms in a sleepy warmth.
Biggest turn-on: Its simple, modern design and unobtrusive white make it a full-fledged decor addition.
What we’d change: Needs various light settings, including a dimmer that’s better for bedtime.
Cost: $88 at bbraithwaite.com.
