The L.A.-based artist had us at her Imagination Mats. And she continues to wow us with her easy, free-flowing, do-it-with-your-kid projects that require little more than imagination, markers, and glue.
Here’s what you’ll need: a heavy paper plate, a wooden paint stick, a glue gun, and glue sticks. If you don’t have a glue gun, multipurpose glue will work, but hot glue is more durable and dries quickly.
Go on a scavenger hunt in your house for items to add to your puppet. Think plastic forks, bottle caps, shoestrings, tape rolls, pennies, tin foil, straws — just about anything will work.
Gather markers, colored pencils, Sharpies, oil pastels, and crayons for coloring in details.
To put together your paint stick puppet, glue a quarter of the stick to the back of the plate. You will use the rest of the stick to make the puppet’s body.
Create your puppet’s face and outfit using your recycled materials. Think ribbon for hair, single socks for dresses, and forks for hands.
Continue to layer textures and colors. Remind your artist that there are never mistakes when creating a masterpiece. When you’re finished, lay flat to dry.
