Screen Play: January’s Must-See Movies

Eight ways to stay warm

“In Bloom”

Nana Ekvtimishvili wrote and co-directed a coming-of-age tale using her memories of teenage life in Georgia circa 1992 (newly independent after the fall of the Soviet Union). When best friends Eka and Natia come across a handgun, each uses it differently in hopes of freeing herself from societal norms. Oh, and it’s the country’s official submission to the Oscars.
It’s like: Circumstance meets Stand by Me.
Take: Indie buffs.
Premieres: Today in NYC (national rollout to follow)
