Oh, to have the confidence of Angie’s right leg.
We’re working our way to full exposure (not J.Lo’s kind, mind you) with help from GST Body, an L.A.-based studio that’s stretched and strengthened us in ways we didn’t think possible.
In today’s videos, GST Body founder Anna Rahe, whom we’ll call “The Body,” shows editor Lauren Lumsden a few simple exercises: the correct way to do a sit-up (above); deceptively hard arm raises to tone shoulders, back, and abs; and leg lifts that’ll whip your butt into shape.
Rahe — excuse us, The Body — uses a Kinetic Traction Strap, but you can easily substitute a dog leash or jump rope.
Just don’t be an exhibitionist about it.
For more information and exercises or to order the Kinetic Traction Strap ($50), go to gstbody.com.
We’re all fans of plopping a gift into a bag with tissue paper and calling it a day. But sometimes you want to do something truly special. In this video, designer Geren Lockhart wraps a boxed gift and gives us all something to aspire to.

By the Wednesday after Thanksgiving — already 30-plus hours into the workweek — it’s hard to retain that holiday spirit.
Get it back by watching today’s video, in which we asked a bunch of the cutest kids you’ve ever seen what they like to eat during the holidays, what they want for Christmas, and what they’re thankful for.
We captured the footage during an event with Nourishing NYC, a nonprofit that provides healthy meals and nutrition education to low-income residents. On this particular day, children (ages 5 to 13) were learning to make a good-for-you Thanksgiving feast.
The kids’ answers to our questions were equal parts touching and hilarious, especially when they told us how their parents would react if they made the turkey all by themselves (“My mom would faint”).
It really is the most wonderful time of the year.
To donate, volunteer, or get more information on Nourishing NYC, go to nourishingnyc.org. For more cute kids, watch our video in which we asked munchkins about love.
’Tis the season for fug sweaters, awkward hometown encounters with high school chums, and office-party faux pas.
When all else fails, we can at least make sure our makeup looks good.
Done. In today’s video, Birchbox’s brilliant Mollie Chen shows us a few ways to touch up and brighten our face postwork, preparty — all in less than five minutes. From her favorite eyeliners and gloss to why it’s better to wear a brightening powder than a translucent one, Chen knows her stuff.
While we had the Birchbox ladies in our office, we also asked co-founder Katia Beauchamp (whose hair always looks amazing) to show us how to create a cool cocktail party-ready updo. All it takes is a few minutes, dry shampoo, some pins, and elastic.
You know, the same thing we’ll need around our waistline after tomorrow.

You know those people in the world who seem to never have bad hair days? Birchbox co-founder Katia Beauchamp is one of them. In this video, she shows us how to do a cool twist-around side-bun updo using just dry shampoo, a teasing brush, elastic, and some pins.

A good test of a band’s worth? Bring its members to your office, get them to play an acoustic set next to your boss’s desk without proper notice, and see if you get fired.
At least that’s what accidentally happened with NY-based rock and rollers Lily & the Parlour Tricks last week at DailyCandy. And as soon as they started playing, even our most serious computer-starers ditched the Internet and ran over to bop along.
For proof of the band’s draw, watch today’s video, in which they play “The Poison Song” from their eponymous EP. As a bonus, they gave us their rendition of “White Christmas” to get us in the holiday spirit.
The six-person group channels an old-timey vibe that makes us want to dance in a billowing skirt while slinging back the hard stuff.
Which might’ve accidentally happened after the performance.
To buy Lily & the Parlour Tricks’s debut EP, go to itunes.com. Hear them live December 14 at The Bowery Electric. For more ear candy, check out our videos with Freelance Whales, Eliza Doolittle, Karen Elson, and Regina Spektor.
If you live in New York (like a lot of our staffers do), you know a “white Christmas” really means a “dark gray slush Christmas.” But that won’t stop us from dreaming, especially when NYC-based band Lily & the Parlour Tricks plays the old Bing Crosby song on our office couch.

We like to think we’re mature enough to resist an obvious double entendre when it presents itself.
But when talking about the new cookbook from the guys behind New York’s popular Meatball Shop restaurants, we seized the opportunity by the balls. The meatballs, to be exact.
For today’s videos, we asked chefs Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow to make three simple recipes from The Meatball Shop Cookbook, all perfect for holiday feasting: Gobble Gobble turkey meatballs (above), kabocha squash salad, and ginger cookies.
They also demo’ed a great-for-wintry-nights port toddy that’s not in the book — we just felt like drinking during the shoot. A ballsy move? Perhaps.
At least one of the chefs isn’t a Schweddy. Get the meatballs recipe. The Meatball Shop Cookbook is available online at amazon.com, $28.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire? Too dangerous. Jack Frost nipping at your nose? No, sir. We’d rather get in the holiday spirit with The Meatball Shop’s recipe for ginger cookies, as demo’ed by chef Michael Chernow.
Get the recipe. The Meatball Shop Cookbook is available online at amazon.com, $28.
Sometimes, on a cold winter’s night, you need something to warm you up. Sometimes, on that same night, you’re stuck at a holiday dinner next to your aunt who asks fourteen times why you aren’t married. Here’s a drink from chef Michael Chernow to help you get through.
Get the recipe. Buy The Meatball Shop Cookbook online at amazon.com, $28.
Thanks to this recipe, we’re starting a campaign to make kabocha the new acorn or butternut. It’s just as delicious, you don’t have to peel it, and it’s chef Daniel Holzman’s favorite. We think it squashes the competition (sorry, couldn’t resist).
You may think perfect Christmas is the most underrated oxymoron out there. Whether it’s the wonky tree lights, the overdone ham, or the aunties who spat, something always manages to wrinkle the plan, right?
Once your daughter has watched the all-new BarbieTM DVD (and displayed her free-with-purchase BarbieTM merch from select retailers), she’ll be the first to tell you otherwise.
A snowstorm diverts the New York-bound holiday flight of BarbieTM and her three sisters, stranding the girls in a remote town called Tannenbaum. Needless to say, their initial reaction is glum.
But the clan opts to make the best of it, embracing new friends and experiences and holding to what’s really important at Christmas: the joy of being together.
Your daughter clearly gets her rosy outlook on life from you.

It’s a simple truth: If you were always the cool, popular kid (especially in middle school), you’re probably a boring adult.
So though we’re not exactly glad Mindy Kaling, a.k.a. The Office’s Kelly Kapoor, was chubby, deathly afraid of bicycles, and preferred her parents to children her own age for most of her youth, for the sake of her LOL-inducing new book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (out Tuesday), we wouldn’t have it any other way.
In today’s video, editor Lauren Lumsden sat down with Kaling at her L.A. home to talk about the book, from why she wrote it to who would play her in the movie version. While there, we also got a tour of her awe-inspiring closet (Cinderella Miu Mius, anyone?).
All the cool kids will be jealous.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? is available for preorder online at amazon.com, $16.
Of the many perks of being a celebrity, a closet that’s bigger than most of our bedrooms is pretty high up there. So when Mindy Kaling offered to show us hers, we twirled at the chance.
In this video, the talented Kaling pulls out a few of her favorite pieces — from glittery Miu Mius to the hoodie she likes to write in — and tells us a little bit about each.
Mindy Kaling’s book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, is available online at amazon.com, $16.
