Makeup Lessons with Merrell Smith

It’s inevitable: You’re going to a holiday party and a zit as big as a tree ornament pops up. Oh, an ex you haven’t seen in five years will be there? Naturally.

We’ve got you covered. In today’s video, makeup artist Merrell Smith of Space NK shows you her simple technique for concealing blemishes. As a bonus she also demonstrates how to get rid of pesky dark areas around the eyes.

Smith’s tips are now an indispensable part of our daily routine. Our only regret is that we didn’t have these videos fifteen years ago.

For more information on Smith, go to merrellsmith.com. Products used in the video include Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (concealer) and a concealer brush. For store locations, go to spacenk.com.

Tune in tonight for the thrilling finale of Top Chef: Just Desserts as editor-at-large Dannielle Kyrillos and fellow judges proclaim a winner. And check out these holiday recipes from dessert masters like TCJD contestants Eric Wolitzky and Zac Young.

An Interview with Our Street Style Idol

An Interview with Our Street Style Idol

Lina Plioplyte shows us her three favorite outfits

Most people reserve head-to-toe leopard print (socks included) for Halloween.

Lina Plioplyte is an exception.

When the Lithuania-born filmmaker dresses in full-body spots, she gets photographed by The Sartorialist.

In today’s video, we head to the street style superstar’s Brooklyn neighborhood to get the lowdown on her three favorite outfits — and attempt to uncover how she makes her Clarissa Explains It All-meets-Iris Apfel look work.

We’ve watched Plioplyte turn heads while behind the camera at multiple DailyCandy videos in the past, so when a group of high school boys asked for her digits during this shoot, we were hardly fazed.

She’s the cat’s meow.

To see Plioplyte’s work, go to teenagepeanut.com. Want more street style? Cast your vote in our contest to find the most stylish city in the country.

He really took one for the team.

And rocks the DailyCandy office

In the spirit of full disclosure, we have a bit of a thing for Lisa Loeb. “Stay” is our go-to karaoke jam. We were frame junkies long before Warby Parker. And we embrace (and at the same time completely reject) our place in Generation X.

Which is why we geeked out when she visited our NYC office to perform from her latest kids’ book and album, Lisa Loeb’s Songs for Movin’ & Shakin’.

Since she rocked our world in 1994, Loeb has released eight albums, starred in two reality shows, launched an eyewear collection, founded a nonprofit, and become a mom.

Her latest fam-friendly effort combines tunes, activities, and a ten-song CD that are guaranteed to get you and your kiddies off the couch and dancing your pants off.

SuChin Pak’s 5 Questions: Anna Chlumsky

SuChin Pak’s 5 Questions: Anna Chlumsky

On her first baby, high school prom, and “Veep”

Here’s a (laughable) piece of trivia: One of the most recognizable kid actors of our generation later became a fact checker at Zagat.

Actress Anna Chlumsky originally invaded our hearts playing Vada Sultenfuss in My Girl. These days she works alongside a motley White House crew as Veep’s Amy Brookheimer.

In today’s 5 Questions with SuChin Pak, Chlumsky fills in the gap between now and then, from what it was like to be a kid actor to who makes her laugh the hardest on the Veep set. She even tells us what it was like to prom-hop in high school.

You’ll probably notice she’s got a bun in the oven (a little lady due this summer).

A.k.a. her girl.

To watch full episodes of Veep, go to hbo.com. For more interviews, check out our videos with model Coco Rocha, actress/writer Mindy Kaling, nutritionist Kimberly Snyder, and singer Emeli Sandé.

SuChin Pak's 5 Questions: Emeli Sandé

SuChin Pak's 5 Questions: Emeli Sandé

The Scottish songstress tells us what we want to know

It takes balls to cover Queen Bey.

Singer/songwriter Emeli Sandé, who sings “Crazy in Love” on the Jay-Z produced Great Gatsby sound track, doesn’t need ’em: Her voice is unreal (and her hair is pretty slick, too).

In today’s 5 Questions with SuChin Pak video, Sandé tells us what’s changed since she’s become a star (her song “Next to Me” is everywhere), what she sings in the shower, and the best advice she’s ever gotten. She even sings the first lyric she ever wrote, at age 7, about aliens.

In case you’re wondering, the interview takes place at JFK, as Sandé joins the ranks of Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding, and Robyn for JetBlue’s Live from T5 concert series.

These girls run the world.

Sandé’s album, Our Version of Events, is available at itunes.com, $8. Want more 5 Questions? Check out our interviews with supermodel Coco Rocha and nutritionist-to-the-stars Kimberly Snyder.

When Should I Follow a Guy on Twitter?

When Should I Follow a Guy on Twitter?

Ask the Office Guy No. 47

You may remember our office guy, Dan (exceedingly handsome, answered burning relationship questions). Well, his dog, Puppy, was spotted by a talent agent, and they moved to Tinseltown.

So we embarked on a manhunt. Introducing the new and improved Ask the Office Guy series, in which we approach (adorable) men who work at our favorite companies and ask for their advice.

First up is Mashable’s editorial director, Matt Silverman. Today he tackles three hard-hitters: When should I follow a new guy on Twitter (above)? What are the red flags when dating online? And, finally, are you single?

We were so smitten with Silverman that we got him to film three more videos, which we’ll publish in our next installment.

After those, we’ll have guys from Foursquare, Yahoo, and who knows.

Maybe even a few from Hollywood.

Want more advice? Check out our original office guy’s tips on flirting, when to text a guy after a date, and what to do if you’re dating a dude with a rattail. Got a question? Email theofficeguy@dailycandy.com. Follow Silverman on Twitter at @matt_silverman and @mashable.

SuChin Pak’s 5 Questions: Kimberly Snyder

The nutritionist talks to us about food

Juices or shakes? Carbs or Atkins? Stevia or agave? When it comes to healthy eating, sometimes it’s just easier to say, “Pass the Oreos.”

In today’s 5 Questions with SuChin Pak, nutritionist Kimberly Snyder answers our burning foodie FAQs, from her feelings on juice cleanses to the items she would add and subtract from everyone’s diets.

We took advantage of Snyder’s know-how (her latest book, The Beauty Detox Foods, came out yesterday) and snagged a hair-thickening Caesar salad recipe and a roundup of foods that combat cellulite, too.

It’s evident the health guru practices what she preaches: She’s flawless in person.

We’re lucky she sandwiched us in.

The Beauty Detox Foods is available at amazon.com, $11. For more about Snyder, go to kimberlysnyder.net and check out her five beauty must-haves.
