Book a night in one of The Connaught’s (16 Carlos Place, W1K 2AL; 020 7950 5493) newly revamped suites. Flirt shamelessly over a martini in David Collins’s gorgeous bar or treat yourselves to a romantic dinner at Scott’s, just up the road.

Countryphile foodies really make out at the West Stoke House (West Stoke, Chichester, PO18 9BN; 01243 575226). Start off with dinner a deux at the Michelin-starred restaurant — the sumptuous beds and views of the rolling Sussex countryside will inspire the rest of your stay.

Or go farther afield to Cowley Manor (Cowley, Gloucestershire, GL53 9NL; 01242 870900), where you can wallow in the glorious C.Side Spa and share a candlelit bath — perfect for letting sparks fly.
