Picks of the Litter

Apple Picking Roundup

An apple-picking trip keeps the back-to-school blues at bay. Here are the best spots to reap the fall harvest.

A trip to Dr. Davies Farm cures boredom and hunger with 4,000 trees, $5 hayrides, and a farm stand. (306 Route 304, Congers; 845-268-7020. Open daily, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., through early November.)

Phillips Farm is self serve, which means you pick and then pay on your own. Scout’s honor. (290 Church Road, Milford; 908-995-0022. Mon. & Wed.-Sun., 8 a.m.-6 p.m.)

Find exotic Senshus and Mutsus at the rustic Mead Orchards. The pumpkins are ripening, too. (15 Scism Road, Tivoli; 845-756-5641. Sat. & Sun., 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., through October.)

How’s that for three to grow on?
