Kid-Approved Farmers Market Treats

so fresh and so green!

Too cold for a trek to your local farmers market? Greenmarket’s Gabrielle Langholtz’s picks for the season’s tastiest, kid-approved treats make it worth enduring a little nipping at your nose.

Use McIntosh, Honeycrisp, and Gala apples to make applesauce and apple butter. (Baked apples are dessert winners, too.)

Hakurei turnips are as sweet as apples for snacking. And look, Ma, no core!

Mashed winter vegetables are delicious, nutritious, and warming. Go solo-ingredient with celery root and pink beet purees, or make a pot of winter squash soup.

Brussels sprouts are much maligned but perfectly delectable when glazed with maple syrup.

For the kid who will eat only plain pasta, go for the fresh egg variety and toss with Ronnybrook Farm Dairy butter and heavy cream.

Take that, Jack Frost.
