You’re So Country
Hudson Valley Road Trip

Heading for the hills? Try the Hudson Valley.
First stop: Dia: Beacon, a 300,000-square-foot factory-turned-museum that’s the perfect place for kids to stretch and explore mod, monumental sculptures and installations by Richard Serra, Sol LeWitt, and others.
For an afternoon on the slopes (with free beginner lessons) head to nearby Mount Peter. Then end the day in Victorian village Tivoli or with a feast of fresh pastas and produce at Mercato (61 East Market Street, Red Hook; 845-758-5879).
Finally, stop by Olana, the Persian-style mansion that once belonged to artist Frederic Edwin Church, so the kids can exhaust themselves on 5 miles of trails before heading home.
Which’ll make for one smooth ride.
