What do you get if you cross a hell-raising celebrity chef with a shopping centre full of suits?
A carefully tailored food fight?
No, Bread Street Kitchen — Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant opening today in the City. A complete change in direction for the Scottish chef, the 10,000-square-foot space is a relaxed all-day dining joint with an industrial East End feel (exposed pipes, vintage lamps, leather banquettes, bistro-style checked floor). Walk-ins are welcome; there are communal and regular tables, as well as bar seating for those eating alone.
On the menu, you’ll find everything from tamarind chicken wings to roast lobster and suckling pig. One-third of the dishes are made in the wood-burning oven, while the raw bar serves salmon ceviche, octopus carpaccio, saltwater prawns with crab toast and more.
Already creating a buzz thanks to preopening Fashion Week parties and a 3 a.m. closing time in the works, this place is going to be big.
And there is no disputing it.
