Exhausted, fed up and not yet recovered from spending a week in a confined space with the family?
Escape to Galante — the new Argentine cocktail bar soft opening today in South Kensington. The stand-alone 1930s art deco spot from the team behind the Gaucho restaurants recalls Buenos Aires’s glamorous heyday.
Well-informed staff (all from South America and dressed in smart gold dresses or white tuxedo jackets) mix gin-based cocktails in Murano glass goblets while answering questions about the country’s history, culture and the famous Latin American bartender Galante is named after.
Try a Marie Rose (gin, fresh grapefruit and red current soda) from your seat around the bar or while perched at a table by big street-level windows.
Snacks prepared in the Gaucho kitchen next door include a ceviche platter, grilled tiger shrimp, blue cheese tart or selection of tasting burgers.
We feel better already. Don’t cry for us.
