Vintage shopping has many rewards.
But standing in a cramped market stall with your shirt around your neck and your jeans around your ankles as you wriggle out of a fragile £900 number isn’t one of them.
Oh, for a changing room.
The new outpost of Gallery of Costume & Textiles provides that — and plenty of other attractions. Those familiar with the original spot know that it isn’t a gallery but rather a shop. And it’s just opened a new location in a three-storey Georgian townhouse, where you can get some of the best vintage finds in London — from clothing and accessories to ribbons and trims, as well as a range of ‘antique-inspired’ clothing by Kyra Segal (who runs the place with her rather dishy brother, Justin).
The only drawback? You have to make an appointment. So it may lack some of the spontaneity of your usual shopping trips.
But you won’t have a streetload of randy fruit and veg sellers leering at your boobs while you strip.
