The Neverending Story

Once upon a time there were two men who showcased their prints charming at Fashion Fringe 2004. So unique and mind-bogglingly intricate were these designs, they were desired by every fashionista and boutique in the land.

But the gentlemen, who went by the names of Bruno Basso and Chris Brooke, were ambitious and sought to expand their empire. They courted Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine of Tatty Devine, whose  eclectic jewellery was loved by all. Together, they produced a collection inspired by the myths and legends of the past: hand-painted brooches and necklaces  in Perspex and wood, featuring rats and pipes and kings and crests and spooky trees.

And the charming prints didn’t end there. They adorned exquisite china plates and upholstered silk armchairs fit for a king. They were exhibited at Harrods and sold like hot cakes to those who yearned for the decade’s answer to Hermès.

So it’s no surprise that Basso & Brooke made pots of gold and lived happily ever after. Alas, if only the same could be said for those who didn’t get their hands on these limited-edition pieces.

They turned into wicked witches and corrupt wizards and went around casting evil spells upon innocent shoppers for the rest of their days.
