Class Act

class (n.)
a set of persons or things grouped together or differentiated (especially by quality) from others.

As with people, so too with art. Specifically, the gallery formerly known as Space. It’s now Eleven, a new venture by Haunch of Venison founder Charlie Phillips and savvy (and rather beautiful) Space alum Laura Parker Bowles.

And if that isn’t enough of a pedigree, the artists in their next show, Figurations, are also top of the class. For one month only, the gallery will exhibit multimedia works by five of Britain’s most exciting established and emerging artists: Olly & Suzi, Natasha Law, Jonathan Yeo, Ray Richardson and Natasha Kissell. (Individual shows will follow throughout the next year).

Standouts would have to be those by Law, whose illustrations are more commonly seen on knickers and T-shirts, who has now taken a refreshing figurative route with gloss on aluminum panels. And Olly & Suzi, who work with blood, mud and ochre.

Should you yearn to spot a few distinguished figures whilst you’re there, have a gawp at Yeo’s photo-realist portraits, which provide ample opportunity to examine the bodies and souls of Erin O’Connor, Rupert Murdoch, Dennis Hopper and Tony Blair.

Class acts in a class of their own.
