The amigos. A-ha. Kirk, Spock and McCoy.
For some, three is definitely a magic number.
For Michel Lasserre, Hassan Abdullah and Stefan Karlson, it’s a cracker. These three wise men have opened their third restaurant and bar, Annex 3, and everyone’s talking about it (and the half-price discount they’re offering for the next ten days). Note that it’s not Annex ‘three’ but rather Annex ‘trois’. And it’s another très délicieux melting pot of daring, flamboyant camp.
Like Les Trois Garçons and Loungelover, Annex 3 is a shrine to unexpected genius. A mini fairground carousel sprinkles light around the mismatched room and the glittery, pink-lit loos are rather spectacular, too. The food is French with an Asian twist. For starters, there’s sauteed mushroom and bean curd broth or fresh crab and apple salad with squid ink dressing, followed by crispy frogs’ legs, baked rock oysters and a supreme steak tartare. Finish with cafe creme brulee or a sublime coconut panna cotta.
There’s one problem with Annex 3: getting one of its unbelievably groovy tables.
The only way to deal with such a dilemma is to set up camp at the bar and drown your sorrows with a ginormous bottle of exquisite French wine.
Or three.
Annex 3, 6 Little Portland Street, W1 (020 7631 0700).
