Before the advent of newfangled institutions like the department store and the mega-retailer, there was the five-and-dime, a perfect neighborhood pit stop for household sundries.
Those are pretty hard to come by these days.
But we found one in everyone’s favorite neighborhood (the Internet): Lillie’s Five-and-Dime, which sells lovely handmade cards and accessories. The coin purses are made from homey vintage-inspired fabrics and fasten cutely with button closures. (We like the Hey Sailor, which comes in a blue and red anchor print.) You’ll also enjoy the simple, solid-colored note cards, vintage greeting cards, and felt flowered brooches.
Browsing is most definitely allowed: Stay awhile at the friendly spot and see if anything strikes your fancy. When something does, you’ll be pleased to discover that its price won’t break the bank.
Even if there’s nothing for a five or a dime.
