For something nutritious and seriously delicious, head to new lunch spot Root. Its signature mash is made with potato or seasonal rooty things and topped with ever-changing tummy-warmers like ratatouille, fish pie or Moroccan lamb tagine.

Salads include chorizo and butter bean, and the deli pots make a great take-home dinner. There are cakes, quiches and pies from Borough Market and Tiki coffee, the only triple-certified (fair trade, organic and  rain forest alliance) coffee in the UK. Eat onsite, take-away or, if you must gobble at your desk, order before 11:30 a.m. for delivery to any local address.

For those further afield, Root assumes you might walk outside to buy your lunch.
