What about a Thingumajig? The so-named line has plenty of random necessities — patterned cushions, fabric-covered pocket mirrors, vintage button magnets, spacious wash bags and greeting cards — all made by Carla Beeby’s own fair British hands.

Beeby also creates made-to-order handbags which, we assure you, are deeply interesting. There’s the Milano (a leather box style with a separate base for shoes or dirty underwear) and the Hobo (a slouchy, timeless carryall in coloured leather with funky corduroy lining). Meanwhile, the Wurslip (of woven damask) will do well for city or beach.

All are true originals and guaranteed to actually be used by the lucky recipient.
