On leaving work every day, you hope to sip sophisticated cocktails in a groovy bar full of stylish people. Instead, you find yourself downing pints with a load of balding suits in a dingy pub.
Take refuge from such a scenario at Parker McMillan, a hip Manhattan-style lounge that opens today, with a Cuban Master or a London Jazz. (Note to all pint drinkers: those are cocktails.)
With brick walls, airy vaults and low lighting, Parker McMillan — located entirely underground — has a raw, industrial feel. Relax in one of four small areas on comfy sofas or prop yourself up at the split-level bar. You won’t find any pork scratchings here; instead, you’ll nibble on soft shell crab with coriander salad and lime or warm salt beef on rye, whilst being entertained by an eclectic mix of young musicians and DJs on regular open-mic nights.
A post-work bar that isn’t hard work?
That suits us just fine.
Parker McMillan, 47 Chiswell Street, EC1Y 4SB (020 7256 5883 or parkermcmillan.co.uk).
