Queen B

Queen Boadicea Pub Opens

She loves a good telly supper with her slippers on. And, really, who can blame her?

But should the Queen fancy a night out, she’ll appreciate the new Queen Boadicea, which opens on Friday in Clerkenwell.

The latest from the team behind The Old Queen’s Head in Islington (whose weekly cabaret shows are fast gaining a big reputation), the pub takes its name from the mighty warrior who led a British uprising against the Roman Empire.

Boadicea is all bohemian elegance: oak-paneled walls, a vast chandelier, roaring fires and rustic leather sofas, with free Wi-Fi and groovy music. And the food is a perfect match: pies by Pieminister (the royal beefeaters will love the Matador, filled with steak, olives, tomato, sherry and butter beans), roasts, grills and indulgent puddings.

Should one tire of hanging out with the hoi polloi, there’s a discreet roof garden upstairs.

As drinking establishments go, this one’s clearly fit for a queen.

Slippers optional.

Queen Boadicea, 292-294 Saint John Street, WC1V 4PA (020 7354 9993 or thequeenboadicea.com).
