Scarlett Johansson in Girl with a Pearl Earring; Jon Voight in Anaconda; Keanu Reeves in pretty much everything.
We’ve seen some wooden performances in our time.
Here’s one worth watching: Becher Bespoke, a new family venture. Father Richard Becher decks out places like Nobu, Hakkasan, Kyx Gym and Theo Fennell with his modern, hand-crafted joinery. Now he’s teamed up with Harry, his son and London’s favourite ‘fixer’ (he arranges the impossible for those who think everything is possible), to make sexy, modern furniture.
As joinery goes, it’s a great partnership. Made from ebony and sycamore, with linings in shagreen, velvet and leather, the pieces are unique. Two favorites: the roll-top writing table made with Bill Amberg; and the ultimate girl’s dressing table with a safe and a secret drawer for love letters — a collaboration with journalist Kate Reardon.
Unsurprisingly, these pieces cost more than your average Ikea cabinet, but they’re built to last, so they’re sure to outperform the competition.
Unlike some people we know.
