Good old Blighty: a land of WAGs, chavs, ladies, lords and lads living together under one roof.
I.e., that belonging to the local pub.
Here’s a new one: The Temperance, a classy British boozer from the team behind The Endurance and The Perseverance, opening in Marylebone today.
Yes, it’s a gastropub, but don’t yawn just yet; this one boasts equal amounts ‘gastro’ and ‘pub’. At the bar, cold meats and cheeses come on shareable wooden boards; whilst upstairs, the a la carte menu includes roasted baby beets with vine tomatoes, veal chops with pesto and chard, skate with celeriac remoulade, followed by rhubarb cheesecake or Bramley apple tart.
The interior is simple: hand-printed Victorian flock, oak panelling, large sash windows and plum leather seats create a convivial (and smoke-free) nook.
Sound cosy?
As roofs go, this one’s got everything covered.
