Some call it bread; others, dough.
Whatever name you use, you probably go through it at a rate of knots.
Thank heaven, then, for Gail’s. Hampstead’s favourite bakery is opening a branch on Portobello Road tomorrow, selling breads from all over the world: Italian ciabatta, French wholemeal sourdough, English oat and bran loaf.
Gail’s also makes pastries, cookies and muffins, plus assorted cakes (the banana chocolate chiffon is definitely worth a nibble). Sophisticated sandwiches come filled with grown-up ingredients like bresaola, parmesan and roasted artichokes.
Take away or eat in the bakery’s cosy seated area and consume with a cup of fair trade Italian coffee and organic milk.
