You respect your parents. You don’t lie. Though you covet your neighbour’s wardrobe/Ferrari/mansion/partner, you don’t steal.
Still, you’re no saint.
Which is why The Forge, opening for lunch and dinner in Covent Garden today, is probably holier than thou. The European restaurant and bar comes from Robert Seigler (owner of Le Cafe du Jardin and Le Deuxième) and is set in an old church with Celtic-style clear glass windows and rustic brick walls.
The food is pure goodness. For starters there’s a dozen Colchester oysters or devilled lambs’ kidneys on toasted sourdough.
For mains: baked wild halibut or confit of duck leg followed by a sinful chocolate fondant with banana parfait, or perhaps a prune clafoutis with roasted figs and red wine caramel. And there are more than 500 offerings on the wine list.
