Treasure Trove

Does Jason Bourne sleep? Does Andrew Lloyd Webber really have a big willy? Can one ever tire of couscous?

Questions, questions.

Here’s the answer to one, at least: eat at Kenza (which means ‘treasure’ in Arabic) and you will never grow weary of couscous; or mezze; or life in general, for that matter. The new Moroccan restaurant and lounge — which comes from Tony Kitous of Kensington’s Pasha — opens today and is simply irresistible.

To start, the place smells of incense and rose petals. Sit cross-legged on embroidered cushions in discreet alcoves, sip exotic cocktails and share dish after dish of flavourful Middle Eastern food: chicken and lemon parcels, deep-fried tiger prawns or slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with couscous (what else?), followed by fresh fruit and sweet baklava.

After dinner, watch belly dancers or groove to the sounds of a resident DJ. Claude Challe played at the opening party last night, which suggests it’s already cooler than cool.

Get your rocks off? Get your socks off, more like.

Maroc on.
