The Westbury Hotel Opens

You like a nice day out with the gee-gees, but you’d rather admire them on a printed tie or silk scarf than on the actual track.

And since you love the area, you’ll appreciate The Westbury Hotel, which reopens in Mayfair today — after a £20 million refurbishment.

Joining the area’s regular haunts (Sketch, Claridge’s, Sartoria, Cecconi’s, Scott’s and The Wolseley), it’s another central stop-off for midshopping bites, business meetings and post-work drinks.

Take breakfast, lunch or dinner in Artisan, an art deco-style restaurant, or sip cocktails in the The Polo Bar. Expect good service all round; a handful of staff have come from Claridge’s.

If you’re irritated by outrageous design and distracted by culinary flamboyance, you might like this place. It’s a self-assured alternative that won’t leave you reaching for your Ray-Bans on entry.

Overall, we’d say it’s fair enough.
