the insider's guide to your city
DailyCandy is a handpicked selection of all that's fun, fashionable, food related, and culturally stimulating in the city you’re fixated on (and all over the Web).
Croissants vs. crumpets? Flaubert or Dickens?
You’ll take it all, thanks. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of Franglais in your book.
So head to Le Cafe Anglais, a new restaurant from Rowley Leigh (of Kensington Place fame) and Charlie McVeigh (creator of Woody’s and Bush Bar & Grill), which opens in Bayswater today. Its heritage is French; its menu, predominantly British.
This cafe is no smoky Parisian coffee bar run by grumpy waiters; it’s a grand dining room overlooking the rooftops of London, serving lunch and dinner. A giant rotisserie cooks game and beef in the open kitchen, whilst fishy dishes come in the form of pike sausage with lobster sauce or Dover sole. There’s beaucoup de vin, and puddings are sinful: the creme caramel is a must.
A perfect ending to your tale of two cities.
