For most people, a paper cut spells pain.
But for illustrator Robert Ryan paper cuts result in painstakingly beautiful works of art now available at Ryantown, his new East London shop.
The tiny store — open only at the weekends — stocks the Cyprus-born artist’s intricate cut-paper artwork in a range that includes greeting cards, tiles, ceramics, clothes, books, prints, mugs and more.
Each whimsical design is handcut on delicate paper using a tiny scalpel and gives a glimpse into Ryan’s wildly romantic imagination. You’ll find hearts, church bells, mountains made of flowers, clouds, birds talking to children and silhouetted lovers embracing on rooftops.
There’s no doubt about it: he’s a cut above the rest.
