We’re all for the people’s choice in politics and anything involving Simon Cowell. But decorating by democracy sounds like a disaster of fugly proportions.
Until we discovered Made.com, a truly genius new online housewares shop. The just-launched website showcases furniture designs from a handful of up-and-comers, holds a public vote to decide which pieces to put into production and offers them at wholesale prices.
Find everything from a solid oak coffee table (£137) to bowl floor lamps (£99) to retro photography prints (£35) at a fraction of the original price without the interference of a wholesaler or retailer. Pieces go directly to the manufacturer in the exact quantities needed — so instead of being mass produced, the lot is made to order.
The site’s got Internet heavyweights Brent Hoberman (Lastminute.com, MyDeco) and Michael Birch (Bebo) behind it and, though it’s just getting off the ground, already has heaps of great deals. Just the thing to get our vote.
Available online at made.com, £19-£238.
