You’re capable of many, many things. Having one bite of cake just isn’t one of them.

So credit Cocomaya alumnae Clare O’Connell for putting portion control in the palm of your hand. We’ve been hearing reports that her cake balls on sticks are the latest sugar rush to titillate tongues and melt hearts all over London.

O’Connell starts with fluffy chocolate sponge batter (vanilla and red velvet coming soon) and cream cheese icing, then dips the confections in chocolate and lets her creativity loose with anything from hand-painted leopard spots to Russian dolls. Our favourite? The cleverly named Union Jack iced Brit pop, of course.

Order from her just-launched site, Popbakery.co.uk, and she’ll deliver them — wrapped individually as lollipops or in boxes of eight — for any occasion, from birthday surprises to wedding banquets. We’ll display them at our next dinner party in a vase filled with sweets, tied in bunches with ribbon or poked into the outside of a melon.

Available online at popbakery.co.uk, £2-£3.
