Ice Cream? So Last Summer

Gelupo Italian Gelateria, Delicatessen and Espresso Bar Opens in Soho

gelupo gelateria, deli and espresso bar!

If there’s one thing you learned while studying in Italy, it was that if you’re going to do something bad — or, um, eat — at least do it well.

Gelupo, a traditional Italian gelateria, delicatessen and espresso bar, opens tomorrow in Soho, just in time for summer indulgence. Owner Jacob Kenedy has chosen the same cobbled back street as his popular Italian trattoria, Bocca di Lupo, for this new dolce vita-inspired parlour.

Take a seat at the long marble bar and sample fresh gelato in unusual flavours like ricotta and coffee or rice grains with cinnamon. Seasonal fruit sorbets (melon, strawberry) and fancy coffees (espresso with beaten egg yolks and hazelnut) are also on the menu. Everything’s available to take away, including the Italian grocery products and deli meats tucked in the back.

Eat your freshly fried cannoli stuffed with gelato or home-baked brioche bun gelato burger (a delightful new take on the ice cream sandwich) while you mingle out front. And speaking of bad habits, Gelupo will be open until 1 a.m. at the weekend — in case you find yourself in Soho late at night.
