You can think of plenty of reasons to start cycling (magic for your calves, the environment, your commute). None of which have yet to actually get you on two wheels.
Vying to change all that: Tokyobike, an urban cycling sensation in Japan.
Debuting tomorrow in a Spitalfields pop-up shop, the sleek bicycles have a classic minimalist aesthetic — with a lightweight body (just ten kilograms), thin wheels and straight handlebars ideal for manoeuvring around crowded city streets. Traffic-stopping colours include everything from moss green to mustard, indigo to turquoise, with mix-and-match colour options for the saddle and handlebars coming soon.
Not convinced? Head to the opening party tomorrow night (6-9 p.m.) to see for yourself or take one for a short spin in the testing area when the store opens to the public on Friday. We’re willing to bet they’re worth the helmet hair.
Tokyobike, 117 Commercial Street, Old Spitalfields Market, E1 6BG (020 7608 0206 or tokyobike.co.uk), £400-£600.
