Yesterday’s tube strike nearly sent you over the edge. Today you made it to your desk in one piece, but the return trip on that overcrowded bus is going to need a reward at the end.
Make it one of these: a Lucky’s chocolate cake inspired by the fantastical world of Alice in Wonderland. The Brazilian makers gave up careers in design and marketing to move to London and pursue their passion for sweet things.
The escapist moments start with the luxurious packaging (a box of six would make a pretty present), continues with the first bite into decadent Valrhona chocolate (each cake is lovingly enrobed) and carries on through the fantastic flavours. Start with Fancy Fudge, a light spiced honey cake dripping with milk caramel, or Chunky Nutter, a dense chocolate brownie with white chocolate and pecans. Work your way through the Nutella-infused cake or the versions studded with dried fruit. Tomorrow doesn’t look so bad, does it?
Available at Raoul’s Deli, 10 Clifton Road, W9 1SZ (020 7289 6649); online at luckys-online.co.uk, £10 per cake, £59 per box of six.
