Watching X Factor all weekend doesn’t make you part of an indie music scene.

Turn off the TV and make your way to The Nest in Dalston to see real, undiscovered talent. The new live music venue, bar and club opening Friday is the latest from The Columbo Group (Paradise by Way of Kensal Rise, The Old Queen’s Head). It focuses on showcasing and supporting new musical acts.

The decor is simple — let’s call it industrial chic. Think exposed pipes and concrete walls with flashes of neon and a retro porn theme in the bathrooms. Raised tables in alcoves run along one wall. Book one in a cage for the best view of the stage, where DJs will play at the weekend and bands like Fiction and Phantom and Flight Facilities will perform on weeknights.

Soon new acts can apply for The Nest Award. Each month one will win 20 per cent of that month’s profits as well as the chance to play to an audience at The Nest. Cheesy stylist and fake tan not included.
