Life in the fast lane is all very well — until you get flashed by a speed camera and slapped with a £100 fine.

For a cheaper thrill, put your foot down at TeamSport’s new indoor go-karting circuit in Bermondsey. The carbon-neutral track — set over two levels of a converted biscuit factory — uses lithium battery-powered karts that are quieter and lighter to help you zoom around bends and dips.

Gather up to ten friends, arrive half an hour early for a safety briefing and change into a jumpsuit, flat shoes and helmet (not a great first-date look). After a few practice runs, compete against each other for the gold medal at the awards ceremony. Or watch the action from the spectators’ area or inside Fuel, the bar and restaurant serving burgers, pizza, beer and wine.

Alcohol before you drive? That’ll put you on the fast track to getting kicked out.
