The traditional way to show someone you care? Putting pen to paper. For a more original approach, try putting them to paper.

Craft wizard Rosalind Freeborn will use her artsy eye to turn a pile of torn paper into a portrait of someone you love in just three weeks. Simply send in a picture of the lucky guy or gal, and she’ll assemble the scraps onto a large canvas to create an uncanny likeness.

Include additional images that reflect your subject’s life — tears from fashion and architecture magazines are popular — and she’ll incorporate them into a collage that’s full of character. The ripped renderings have so impressed the art world that Freeborn’s portraits have hung in the Sable d’Or gallery in North London.

Not quite as off the wall as it seems.
