Folksy curios, stale peppermints, the vague but persistent scent of mothballs.
Broome Street General Store has none of the above.
Rather, this new Silver Lake emporium stocks its shelves with artisanal goods and spices, vintage kitchenwares, and all sorts of nifty items you never knew you needed.
Named for the Manhattan street where founder Sophie Esteban once lived, the shop has a soft spot for the Big Apple, as evidenced by an array of New York imports like Gimme Coffee, Brooklyn Brine Co. pickles, and MCMC Fragrances.
The West Coast gets some love, too, courtesy of Valerie Confections pastries and Cake Monkey cakewiches.
Grab lunch to go or plant yourself at a picnic table on the sun-soaked patio.
All in all, this is one general we definitely salute.
