How does that Def Leppard song go? “Pour some sugar on me/in the name of … hair removal”? Sure, whatever. Step away from the jukebox and get the sticky sweet stuff from ecominded aesthetician Danielle Correia, who recently opened a studio, Sugaring L.A., in Santa Monica. Sugaring, as it’s commonly known, uproots unwanted fuzz with a paste of sugar, lemon juice, and water. Hop onto Correia’s spa bed and she’ll go to town while cheerily extolling the virtues of her craft. The paste doesn’t tug on skin, making it ideal for irritation-prone areas (bikini, underarm). But that’s hardly its only selling point: It’s chemical free, pulls out hairs in their natural direction (causing less ingrowns and breakage), and is an excellent exfoliant. No need to sugarcoat it.
