Upset over high unemployment rates? Blame PJ Roden and Katerina Gabbro — they’re hoarding all the jobs.
The interior decorators/jewelry-makers/furniture designers/shopkeepers have more than their fair share of work. To wit, a page from their day planner:
10:30 a.m.: Open Highland Park home decor shop Matters of Space and take inventory (Japanese housewares, refurbished vintage furniture, bric-a-brac by artisan pals).
1 p.m.: Create radical, statement-making rope necklaces from recycled textiles.
3 p.m.: Brainstorm over affordable, eco-conscious furniture designs. Walnut credenzas and rosewood desks are selling fast.
6 p.m.: Client house call. Scribble notes as she discusses her lifestyle (pet owner, entertains frequently) and taste (Old Hollywood, boho). Measure space. Snap photos.
9 p.m.: Compile a DIY design packet for aforementioned client with layout ideas, furniture and color suggestions, and a resources list.
11 p.m.: Watch 9 to 5. Envy Dolly Parton’s hours.
Matters of Space, 5005 York Boulevard, at North Avenue 50, Highland Park (323-743-3267 or mattersofspace.com). DailyCandy readers save $200 on a design consultation (regularly $500) through September 30.
