When it comes to master stylist Shin An, we haven’t seen such fancy blade work since Johnny Weir.
After more than a decade honing her craft at top Manhattan salons (Mark Garrison, Labrecque), An brings her shear savvy westward with an eponymous beauty shop, Shin, opening this week in Santa Monica.
A whiz at flattering face shapes, An uses a dry-cutting technique to ensure precision (wet trims available by request). Color treatments, mani/pedis, and rejuvenating scalp facials (as delightful as they sound) are also a cut above.
The bungalow-style space (Asian-themed carved-wood panels, red lacquered walls) has a front apothecary area offering home and hair care products, including Philip B.’s personal homage to An: Shin Shine and Shinade Pomade.
They’re perfect tens.
Shin Salon, 1025 Montana Avenue, between Tenth and Eleventh Streets, Santa Monica (310-310-3128 or shinhair.com), $90 and up.
