You Look Swell

Our guide to maternity in the city

maternity guide!

Everyone loves a pregnant woman. (Proof: Stranger patting your belly on the el.)

Make it a swell 40 weeks with the help of these maternity services.

Stay in tip-top shape as you round out with You Grow Girl Fitness (sessions start at $100 per hour). Personal trainer Jen Dixon guides moms-to-be through stretches, cardio, and strength-training exercises in their homes, outside, or at a gym. Follow up with her postpartum to transition back to your old, nonjiggly self.

Bum Bul Bee Photo + Films creates short films documenting life before and after baby ($750). Shutterbug Ashbey Riley comes to you to capture HD video, then syncs the footage to music to create a vignette available on DVD and for online sharing.

Safety comes first, so set your protective eyes on classes from Chicago CPR ($35 per person). In a small group, you’ll learn to handle infant choking and pick up tips on SIDS prevention, poison control, and car seat safety.

Baby will need a wardrobe. Go easy on your budget and the environment with a subscription to Good Karma Clothing for Kids ($20-$45 per month). The local service delivers bundles of gently worn clothes to your door (brands commonly include Janie and Jack, Tea Collection, and BabyGap). When they’re outgrown, return them for a new batch.

It’s just the bump you need.
