Read our tulips: When it comes to creative, out-of-the-box floral arrangements, Flour L.A. is the real daffodil. And now the L.A.-based florist is sharing its secrets (no orchiding). Owner/instructor Carly Cylinder (Mark’s Garden, Empty Vase) sets up shop at Surfas in Culver City and conducts a three-hour, hands-on workshop. No shrinking violet, Cylinder teaches the basics in a lively, entertaining manner (with gratis wine and snacks included, it’s a wonder the class doesn’t devolve into a freesia-for-all). Learn proper prep and care along with snazzy design techniques like gridding, spiraling, and reflexing. Tutorials on modern wildflower arrangements, handheld bouquets, and submerging flowers are also on the syllabus. Students take home their handiwork in complimentary vases. Hurry and book before all the spots begonia. Flour L.A. classes take place every other Wednesday (beginning April 18), at Surfas, 8777 Washington Boulevard, at National Boulevard, Culver City (310-559-4770). To register (required), go to flourla.com. One class is $150. Photo: Courtesy of Flour L.A.
