Little girls love, love, love pink. But how to indulge their blush crush in a way that stands the test of time? L.A.-based designer Tamara Kaye-Honey did just that for an 8-year-old client. Here, her tips for crafting pink-errific spaces that straddle the line between playful and sophisticated.

1. Use grown-up patterns. Kaye-Honey built this look around a printed linen fabric from Christopher Farr Cloth.

2. Incorporate contrasting shades. The fabric she chose contains both pale and hot pink hues, and the mix is repeated throughout the room — pale and soft on the walls and sheeting, bold and bright on the drapes, and furniture painted in Benjamin Moore’s Peony.

3. Sprinkle in unexpected accessories. Kaye-Honey used vintage artwork and kitschy antique curios (hello, ceramic cat) to add personality. Try eBay or 1stdibs.com for similar finds.

4. Cut the pink with a strong hit of another color. Here, a blue flat-weave rug from Calypso Home breaks the monotony.
