Feel like a Top Chef in Hedley & Bennett

Aprons that cause a stir

Ellen Bennett looked high and low for an apron that could take the heat of the kitchen and still sizzle front of house.

When she came up empty-handed, she cooked up her own design using a simple recipe: quality fabric (Japanese and selvage denim, European linen and American canvas), adjustable cotton straps, antique brass and matte hardware, and strategically placed pockets.

A line cook at two-Michelin-starred seafood restaurant Providence, Bennett knows of what she sews. Each apron is durable and built for comfort but with the precise fit and eye for detail usually owed to a four-star fashion background.

For a glimpse of her handiwork, swing by local eateries Animal, Trois Mec, and Ink, where the staff wear customized versions of the designs.

Bennett is also bringing plans for totes, knife bags, children’s aprons, and baby bibs to a boil.

She’s one smart thinkin’ chef.
