Let Them Eat Crepes Cake

Lady M Confections opens

We bid farewell to NYC years ago, but we still pine for the pastry we left behind: Lady M’s Mille Crepes cake.

So when word spread that Ken Romaniszyn had opened an outpost of his famous Manhattan bakery on West Third Street, we rushed over for a teary reunion.

Alas, on its first day in business, the kitchen sold out by 2 p.m.

Undeterred, we grabbed a seat in the minimalist space (concrete floors, white accents) and curbed our craving with a selection of savory options (ham and cheese sandwiches, tuna salad) and individual sweets (vanilla custard eclairs, apple galettes).

A jewel box display case of cakes like Checkers (vanilla and chocolate sponge cake) and Miroir Caramel (pure caramel mousse) proved tempting, but our loyalty to our one true love (handmade crepes layered with pastry cream and bruleed on top) never wavered.

Parting can be such sweet sorrow. Especially when it involves dessert.
