You’ve been dying to can that production job and take a sabbatical at the Cordon Bleu. Honey, get in line.
You could always take a job waiting tables, as the humble folk do. Or save yourself the energy, and check out Alex, the latest from Alex Scrimgoeur. After stints at the Kennedy Center and Malibu’s Saddle Peak, Chef Alex should be ready to strike out on his own.
Scrimgeour has transformed the old Citrus space into an homage to his Scottish heritage (think: buttery leather armchairs, family tartans) with help from Austin Powers designer Rusty Smith. The art was done by painter Clare Scrimgeour. (As in, Alex’s mom. Hello? Nepotism? Okay, that’s actually pretty cute.)
The four-course prix-fixe and a la carte menu feature signatures like grilled radicchio with Papillion Roquefort, sauteed sweetbreads, and pancetta-wrapped Panama bass.
About that wall of windows lining the kitchen. The chef is probably just showing off, but if you pick up some julienning tips from watching, all the better.
Alex, 6703 Melrose Avenue, at Citrus Avenue (323-933-5233)
