Not So B9

B-I-N-G-O.

Five letters that conjure the image of a room full of blue-haired ladies, fighting over salted peanuts. Or, worse, recurring images of a certain farmer-owned dog.

Take heart, game lovers. Almost every Monday night Parlour Club hosts Ballroom Bingo. But before you run for the hills, listen up: It’s an ironically named punk-rock version of the old favorite.

Mark your free space and pay attention as MC Baron Von Bingo twirls his mini number generator — a veritable wheel of fortune for one lucky winner. Prizes include such kitschy gems as a “Here Comes the Hotstepper” remix CD, a VHS tape on starting your own Beanie Baby collection, and an “I love Bingo” bumper sticker for the truly shameless. The club provides chips and cards, too, but serious players should come equipped with their own arsenal of bingo puns. (Yes, a certain “O” still gets a laugh. Every time.)

With $3 martini specials and DJs spinning throughout the night, you’ll definitely forget all about that annoying doggie song.

Oops. Sorry about that.

Ballroom Bingo, most Mondays 7-10 p.m., Parlour Club, 7702 Santa Monica Boulevard, between Stanley and Spaulding Avenues (323-650-7968).
