Lincoln Park

If you’re going to name your restaurant after one of our greatest presidents, you’d best be prepared to serve up some seriously patriotic food.

Lincoln, which just opened in Santa Monica, is the latest from the Ivar-Paladar-Tengu-Nacional gang. (Can you say “empire”?) Once again they don’t disappoint: Chef James Grey’s menu is chock-full of upscale American classics, like USDA Prime and Angus beef, Louisiana-style etouffee, Maine lobster, braised short ribs, and the obligatory mac and cheese. The wine list is dominated by offerings from California, Oregon, and Washington.

The interior (courtesy of dream designer Kelly Wearstler of the Avalon and Viceroy) is a contemporary twist on steakhouse chic: plenty of dark walnut, comfy banquettes, and well-chosen touches like custom backlighting and gold mirrors. The perfect backdrop for a juicy sirloin, a mint julep, and a hearty serving of bananas Foster, Lincoln is as American as apple brown Betty.

Which, of course, is also on the menu.

Lincoln, 2460 Wilshire Boulevard, between 24th and 25th Streets, Santa Monica (310-828-2217).
