Maple-lined streets. Quaint colonial houses. Thunderstorms.
Out here amidst the summer haze and smog, the clear blue skies of New England can sound pretty exotic.
South Willard, Third Street’s newest shop, is named for the Vermont street where co-owner and stylist Danielle Kays lived, and it’s like a cool corner of unconventional style in the middle of L.A. She and boyfriend Ryan Conder stock designers from far-off lands like Belgium, New Zealand, Argentina, and Brazil. But there’s no cheesy world-music vibe here: Look instead for unusual labels like Rag and Bone (two New York-based English guys who make jeans from Japanese denim in an old Kentucky factory). Just the sorts of things to help you break out of your well-worn L.A. aesthetic. Which isn’t to say that you can’t pair the stuff with Havaianas and a C&C T-shirt.
Wouldn’t want to get too exotic.
